When someone is excited about a piece, and I finally finish it, especially if it is a piece that is special to a client or that they have been waiting a while to get, it is very special to see the finished product. What’s the feeling like whenever a project is finished and they can see a big piece for the first time completed? What’s that feeling like to you? They put all their trust in me as their artist. When I come up with the designs the night before or the day of, I’ll discuss them with the client and ensure they like them. My graphic design background has helped me a lot by being able to design imagery for specific areas of the body.Īlso, I’m fortunate that most of my clients trust me. So I’ll go back to my iPad and look up different imagery, and that’s where my design aspect comes into play. After tattooing synthetic skin, I started tattooing friends. I would watch him work, and then he would help me with all the different techniques and what I needed to learn. In this apprenticeship, you practice line work and minimal, traditional style there are a lot of simple lines. But when I started apprenticing, I actually started tattooing on pigskin, like a pig ear. T attooing is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to learn, and I’m two and a half years into tattooing real skin. ![]() I decided to try that position because I was unhappy at Amazon and fell in love with it.Ĭan you talk about the apprenticeship you had? Then my stepdad at the time was getting tattooed by my mentor Mike, and then he was like, ‘Yeah, he’s looking for an apprentice.’ So because of this, I veered away from it, started working at Amazon for a year, and tried to figure everything out. After I graduated, I looked for graphic design jobs.Īs previously mentioned, I went to school for graphic design, so I saw jobs I was qualified for however, I was not interested in them. I only thought about pursuing it as a career after I graduated. When I was in school, I was also constantly getting tattoos. This profession just fell into my lap, honestly. They were very open, and even when we graduated, they were all there and still in our corner. Because it is a smaller school and more hands-on, you get to be close to the teachers, and I have enjoyed all of my professors’ teaching styles.
